Thank you, God, for this new day, for the life you are giving each member of my family: Thank you for [name each member of the immediate family, not forgetting yourself]. Bless each one of us with the strength and health we need to serve you today, with the joy we need not to give in to discouragement, anger, or boredom, with the protection we need against physical and moral danger, and with the love we need to give hope to those we meet.

We Are All the Children of God

Blessed are the poor in spirit:
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn:
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek:
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness:
for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful:
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart:
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers:

for they will be called the children of God.

The Beatitudes, Matthew 5:3-9

The Fearsome Blessing of Hard Times

The fearsome blessing of that hard time continues to work itself out in my life in the same way we’re told the universe is still hurtling through outer space under impact of the great cosmic explosion that brought it into being in the first place.  I think grace sometimes explodes into our lives like that—sending out pain, terror, astonishment through inner space until by grace they become Orion, Cassiopeia, Polaris, to give us our bearings, to bring us into something like full being at last.
