You Must Do the Thing You Think You Cannot Do

You gain strength, courage, and confidence
By every experience in which
You really stop to look fear in the face.
You are able to say to yourself,
“I lived through this horror.
I can take the next thing that comes along.”

I Found God in Myself and I Loved Her Fiercely

I was missing something
a laying on of hands
not a man
laying on
not my mama/holding me tight/saying I’m always gonna be her girl
not a laying on of bosom and womb a laying on of hands
the holiness of myself released

I sat up one nite walking a boarding house screaming/crying/the ghost of another woman who was missing what I was missing
I wanted to jump up outta my bones
& be done with myself
leave me alone
& go on in the wind
it was too much
I fell into a numbness
til the only tree I did see

took me up in her branches
held me in the breeze
made me dawn dew
that chill at daybreak
the sun wrapped me up swinging rose light everywhere
the sky laid over me like a million men
I was cold/I was burning up/a child
& endlessly weaving garments for the moon
with my tears
I found god in myself
& I loved her/I loved her fiercely

A Prayer to Our Heavenly Father to Follow St. Joan of Arc’s Example

400px-joan_of_arc_miniature_graded.jpg

O, mighty Lord, I pray
That You will be my shield,
just as You protected St. Joan of Arc in battle.
As I do battle against ignorance, cruelty, and injustice,
through Your unending love,
I pray that You will deliver me from my enemies
and that You will grant me goodness and steadfastness,
so that I might lead others to do Your will

and glorify Your Name.
Through the power of Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Dear God,
I have many problems in my life
That I don’t know the answer to,
But I trust that you do.
Please guide me in the way
That is best and gives me wisdom and strength.
May your will be done! Amen.

Out of the depths, I cry to you, Lord!
My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow;
have mercy on me, according to your unfailing love.
May your Word of truth comfort and strengthen my soul.
You are the Resurrection and the Life.
He who believes in you will live, even though he dies!

Be my Light, my Strength, my Hope, and my Peace. Amen.

The Virtue of Patience

Dear Jesus, you know intimately the challenges
that I face in showing patience toward the people
you have put in my life.
I have failed so often to bear with others in love.
Forgive me. Thank you, dear Savior, for paying
in full the price for these failures.
Thank you for your life of perfect patience, lived in my place.

Give me strength today to reflect your patience to others. Amen.

With a Pure Heart

low-angle-photography-of-people-s-finger-doing-star-shape-3228692
Help us to love each person because
they are a human being and created in the image of God.
Let not our race, color, religion, or ethnicity be a dividing factor
but may we see each person as a uniquely created individual
worthy of our love.
Help us to stand against senseless violence and not support
anyone who would divide others for their own gain.
Make us true instruments of your peace.

In Jesus’ Holy name we ask. Amen.

Under the Watch of the Stars

Hear ye the words of the Star Goddess,
the dust of whose feet are the hosts of heaven,
whose body encircles the universe:
I who am the beauty of the green earth
and the white moon among the stars
and the mysteries of the waters,
I call upon your soul to arise and come unto me.
For I am the soul of nature that gives life to the universe.
From Me all things proceed and unto Me they must return.
Let My worship be in the heart that rejoices,
for behold—all acts of love and pleasure are My rituals.
Let there be beauty and strength,
power and compassion,
honor and humility,
mirth and reverence within you.
And you who seek to know Me,
know that your seeking and yearning will avail you not,
unless you know the Mystery:
for if that which you seek,
you find not within yourself,
you will never find it without.
For behold, I have been there with you from the beginning,

and I am that which is attained at the end of desire.

God and All Goodness

Grant, O God, thy protection,
and in protection, strength,
and in strength, understanding,
and in understanding, knowledge,
and in knowledge, the knowledge of justice,
and in the knowledge of justice, the love of it,
and in that love, the love of all existences,
and in the love of all existences, the love of God,

God and all goodness.

Song of Spirit

person riding boat on calm body of water
Photo by Brian Hackworth on Pexels.com
I am the wind on the sea
I am the ocean wave
I am the sound of the billows
I am the seven-horned stag
I am the hawk on the cliff
I am the dewdrop in sunlight
I am the fairest of flowers
I am the raging boar
I am the salmon in the deep pool
I am the lake on the plain
I am the meaning of the poem
I am the point of the spear
I am the god that makes fire in the head
Who levels the mountain?
Who speaks the age of the moon?
Who has been where the sun sleeps?

Who, if not I?
