Be a Candle in the Dark

Each day can’t be a good day.
But within each day—
those long twenty-four hours—
there are a few minutes or even
seconds when something good
or special happens.
Those moments are as powerful
As the frail flame of a candle
That can light an entire dark room.

Little soul,
you and I will become
the memory
of a memory of a memory.
A horse
released of the traces
forgets the weight of the wagon.

How to Not Block the Blessings

There’s a reason the sun rises anew each day.
Every day is a completely clean slate.
Cherry-picking bad memories
and rolling them around in my head all day,
it’s hard to remember that
I’ve been blessed with forgiveness.
Forever. For good.
Somehow I seem to think
I’ve got to make amends in perpetuity,
that I need to keep re-living my mistakes
till it blocks the blessings from coming in.
But happiness is really just a habit;
a decision to accept grace and embrace joy.
Make me a work in progress
who actually acknowledges the progress I’ve made
and the work we’ve done together.

We Are One

Justice rolls down like a river
Compassion and peace shall flow like a stream,
The hills, rocks and valleys, oceans and trees
Sing out their song: We are one.
Sing out their song: We are one.

All of creation, the Great Dance.
Only one tribe, one clan.
Dignity, peace and honor
To the earth, each woman and man.
Deep be the peace of the dark night
Brightened and blessed by the stars

Calling us now to awaken.
Gathering hearts near and far.
Surrounded by rich ancient wisdom,
Circling within and around,
Embracing the beauty in stillness,
Bursting in one Sacred Sound.
Our hopes and our dreams go before us,
Our longing to heal, to be whole,
Together we birth a new moment,
The Great Work of hands, heart and soul.

To Be Made New

Today I hold still
To balance and recharge,
To release the day before
And prepare for the day ahead.

With You here beside me,
My mind quiets to hear Your voice.
My heart opens to draw You in.
And, with Your peace
within and around me,
I thank You for this opportunity
to be made new.

Reach Out Your Hand to Comfort

May God bless you with a restless discomfort
about easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships,
so that you may seek truth boldly and love deep within your heart.

May God bless you with holy anger at injustice, oppression,
and exploitation of people, so that you may tirelessly work for
justice, freedom, and peace among all people.

May God bless you with the gift of tears
to shed with those who suffer
from pain, rejection, starvation,
or the loss of all that they cherish,
so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them
and transform their pain into joy.

A World Yet Undreamed

We can create a world as yet unimagined, a world undreamed, yet dimly felt. We are like the corn. Mysteriously hidden within each of us are the seeds that can germinate into a new society, a new planet. Like the corn, we have hidden deep within our living process a wisdom that reaches back to all knowledge and beyond to all possibilities. Our very existence is potential. Potential is always that which is, as yet, unexpressed. We have the wisdom of the ancestors reaching back to the mighty power of all creation…within us.

A Guide for Those Who Lost Their Way

May I become at all times, both now and forever
A protector for those without protection
A guide for those who have lost their way
A ship for those with oceans to cross
A bridge for those with rivers to cross
A sanctuary for those in danger
A lamp for those without light
A place of refuge for those who lack shelter
And a servant to all in need.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Let Us Be Love in Action

May we love ever more.
May we motivate ourselves to committed love in Action.
May we motivate ourselves to live the life
we wish to see in the world.
May we be the transformation we wish to see in the world.
From the inside out…
From the roots branching upwards…
From the heart
to thought
to word
to action.
Through life’s trials and hardships
we can arise beautiful and free.
